Mountain Cup with Saucer

This cup is designed and made by 16kai, inspired by the shape of mountains.

The cup features a distinctive glazing technique that combines the classical blue-and-white porcelain (Qinghua) color, originating from cobalt oxide pigments, with a compound eggshell-colored glaze. The blue patterns emerge through a traditional high-temperature firing process, characteristic of Qinghua ceramics. The eggshell glaze, known for its ultra-thin, translucent quality, is layered with a subtle tint, resulting in a refined, silky surface that enhances both visual and tactile appeal.

The silver glaze technique is a traditional ceramic art form that involves applying 99.9% pure silver onto the surface of ceramic pieces, followed by refiring the ceramics at over 900°C. Since silver’s melting point is approximately 800°C, the high-temperature firing allows the silver to bond seamlessly with the ceramic surface, creating a lustrous, metallic finish. Once fired, the surface is carefully polished to enhance its shine and smoothness.
